Additional fire strike teams sent to Yakima, Kittitas counties during red flag weather
YAKIMA VALLEY-Due to the red flag weather warning, some extra fire resources have been sent to a number of local counties. The state fire marshal office sent out one strike team each to the counties of Kittitas, Yakima, and Klickitat. The strike teams consist of five wildland fire engines, and one water tanker.

Yakima County is in the process of hiring a Care Coordinator to help homeless people and help save tax dollars. THE 2023 POINT IN TIME SURVEY REVEALED AN INTERESTING PROBLEM. Following the annual Point in Time survey in which homeless are counted in the valley, Yakima County Commissioner Kyle Curtis says the survey found there were 1,768 visits to the Yakima Multicare Memorial Hospital Emergency Room in 2023 by clients listed as “unhoused."
Strike teams mobilized for potential wildfires in Kittitas, Yakima and Klickitat counties
State fire assistance has been mobilized to pre-position firefighting resources to be ready to respond to potential wildfires in Kittitas, Yakima and Klickitat counties, state officials announced Wednesday. Three strike teams have been mobilized. The precautionary help was made under the Washington State Fire Services Resource Mobilization Plan, officials said. Washington State Patrol Chief John Batiste authorized the mobilization of state firefighting resources at 5 p.m. July 9 at the request of Lower Columbia Fire Defense region coordinator and Klickitat County Fire District 3 Chief Wesley Long. Officials said the three counties had experienced multiple days of hot, dry and windy conditions. The areas were also under “red flag warnings” from the National Weather Service. Personnel from the State Fire Marshal’s Office are working remotely to coordinate the dispatching of resources.
