    WATCH: Noem gives update on flooding

    YANKTON S.D. (KELO) — Gov. Kristi Noem gave another update on storms and flooding in KELOLAND on Tuesday afternoon in Yankton.

    Governor Noem says 30 different counties are facing emergency declaration impacts that could be filed to quality for FEMA.

    ‘Rarest of rare’ for some rainfall, NWS says

    Noem says projections looking better on Tuesday. The James River crested earlier Tuesday at 22.17 feet which is lower than they projected and earlier than what they expected.

    Noem says with their earlier projections, they were concerned that all 3 rivers that dump into the Missouri River would crest at the same time.

    A day and a half ago the Big Sioux River crested. The Big Sioux River crested at 45 feet, 7.3 feet above previous historical records.

    The Vermillion River crested at 32.7 feet, which is a foot above the previous historical record.

    The Missouri River at Sioux City crested at 32.2 feet, which is 3 feet below its previous historical record.
