    Quincy Wilson.

He's not even old enough to buy a lottery ticket, but 16-year-old Quincy Wilson will try his luck and make U.S. men's track and field Olympic history on Friday in Paris.

According to a report by ESPN's Coley Harvey , Wilson said he was thrilled when he was told in July that he would be added to the Team USA 4x400-meter relay pool after not qualifying for the individual 400-meter dash at the U.S. track and field trials in June.

"When I got the call, I was like, I was ecstatic," Wilson said, per the report. "I started running around the house. It was just a moment for me because everybody dreams about going to the Olympics as a young kid."

When the teenager competes on Friday, he'll become the youngest American male to participate in an Olympic track and field event. The record is currently held by Jim Ryun, who took part in the 1964 Tokyo Olympics at 17 years and 137 days old.

Wilson missed the 4x400 mixed heats earlier this week and according to Harvey's report, it was "uncertain" if he'd be running in the Summer Games at all, or if he'd be an alternate in the overall relay pool.

Per Harvey, the Maryland native said he began dreaming about running in the Olympics during the 2016 Summer Games in Rio when he was only eight years old.

Wilson broke the 400-meter dash under-18 world record twice at the U.S. trials, first posting a time of 44.66 in the preliminary round and then a 44.59 in the semifinals. Wilson then recorded a 44.20 in July at a "tune-up race" in Florida, per Harvey.
