Report: Trial timeline set for Manchester City's Premier League charges

Manchester City's Premier League dynasty will be under scrutiny shortly after the 2024-25 season kicks off.

ESPN's James Olley reported Tuesday , citing multiple sources, that the hearing for the eight-time league champions' alleged rule breaches has been officially set to start Sept. 16.

The report also detailed that the independent panel hearing will last approximately two months — with a verdict anticipated to be reached by early 2025. Sky Sports provided more details about the timeline on X.

Manchester City was hit with 115 charges of financial-regulation breaches by the Premier League in February 2023.

The charges, dating from 2009-2018, include 14 counts of failing to provide accurate payment details for players and managers, seven counts of breaching league profit and sustainability rules (PSR), five counts of failing to follow UEFA financial fair play (FFP) rules and 35 counts of failing to cooperate with investigators.

This isn't the first time Manchester City has been accused of financial foul play.

The English giants successfully staved off punishment from UEFA in 2020 after the Court of Arbitration for Sport overturned a European competition ban imposed on them for similar allegations.

It has yet to be seen if the Premier League's trial will begin without any last minute delays — Manchester City sued the league in June for "discrimination" and financial interference.

The Premier League season begins Friday, and Manchester City will play its first match on Sunday against Chelsea.
