Air Force Academy unveils new uniforms honoring Special Operations Command

Most college football fans are well aware of the Army-Navy rivalry, culminating with the big game played in December, often to award the Commander-in-Chief's trophy.

But the Air Force Academy actually owns the most Commander-in-Chief season titles with 22, last winning the trophy in 2022.

When Air Force meets the Naval Academy in October, the Falcons will be sporting new uniforms honoring the Air Force Special Operations Command (AFSOC).

The uniforms, part of the academy's Air Power Legacy Series, were revealed Tuesday in a statement and with several promotional posts on X.

The new look includes black helmets featuring the winged dagger insignia of the AFSOC as well as the Special Tactics Combat Control motto "First There" on the front bumper.

One of three badges representing AFSOC will appear on the left shoulder of the black uniforms. The pants will display the AFSOC dagger on the left leg and the "First There" motto on the right leg.

According to the Air Force Academy, AFSOC is the 30-year-old special operations component of the service headquartered at Hurlburt Field in Florida.

The uniforms are designed to honor the Air Commandos and Special Tactics components of the AFSOC, which are the most decorated units in the Air Force since the Vietnam War and have been a part of every major combat mission since the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks.

The academy's Air Power Legacy Series began in 2016 and has recently featured uniforms honoring military history such as the Doolittle Raiders and the U.S. Space Force .
