    Davis Bertans

The Philadelphia 76ers have been busy during the offseason, with president of basketball operations Daryl Morey adding Paul George , Andre Drummond, Reggie Jackson, Caleb Martin and Eric Gordon. As such, Philadelphia's roster looks deeper and more well-rounded ahead of the 2024-25 NBA season. There's reason to believe they could contend at the top of the Eastern Conference.

Morey may not be done reshaping Nick Nurse's team, though. According to Keith Pompey of the Philadelphia Inquirer, the Sixers could be intrigued by the possibility of adding veteran forward Davis Bertans to the rotation.

“Sources have said the team had some level of interest in Bertāns,” Pompey wrote. “But despite his 6-10, 225-pound frame, Bertāns is more of a three-point specialist than a power forward.”

Bertans split his time between the Oklahoma City Thunder and Charlotte Hornets last season, playing in a total of 43 games. He averaged 6.7 points and 1.4 rebounds per night while shooting 39.3% from the perimeter. It's that three-point shooting that could make Bertans an ideal fit off the Sixers bench.

Philadelphia has struggled for reliable perimeter scoring in recent years. Nurse's roster is built around Joel Embiid, who thrives when playing in or around the paint. Paul George's addition will provide some floor spacing, but he is also a high-level slasher who is at his best when allowed to pressure the rim. The same can be said for Tyrese Maxey.

The more shooting Nurse has at his disposal, the more freedom he can provide to his elite talents. If defenses are forced to stay home on shooters, there will be less opportunity for double-teams and hedges. Collapsing on drives would be a big no-no, too.

The Sixers are already a vastly improved unit. Adding Bertans wouldn't change much in the grand scheme of things; it would, however, finally give the Sixers the extra shooting they've been searching for and provide Nurse with plenty of rotation and combination options ahead of the new season.
