New York Mets shortstop Francisco Lindor.

New York Mets closer Edwin Diaz and catcher Francisco Alvarez suggested that they'd find creative ways to respond after Oakland Athletics relief pitcher Austin Adams mocked the Mets' " OMG " celebration on Tuesday night

The Mets did just that via Wednesday's 9-1 win over Oakland and, maybe, through a couple of gestures of their own.

As Manny Gomez of NJ Advance Media for NJ.com explained, Mets outfielder Jesse Winker seemed more enthusiastic than normal while performing the team's " slap the air " celebration toward New York and Oakland players after he reached base in the second inning. Francisco Lindor then appeared to mimic Adams' actions as the Mets shortstop rounded the bases following a third-inning home run.

Lindor later insisted to reporters that he was motioning toward teammates and the club's bullpen.

"L et Adams do whatever he’s gotta do, " Lindor said. " I’m worried about my teammates. We’ve been doing that all season long. Not all season, but we’ve been doing that for three months ... It had nothing to do with whatever he did yesterday. "

Lindor and others have routinely used celebrations related to the hit song released by veteran infielder Jose Iglesias to help produce " good vibes " following the club's woeful spring. However, one couldn't blame the Amazins for using anything they could find as bulletin board material coming off Tuesday's brutal 9-4 loss to Oakland that followed New York's 4-6 road trip, a stretch that ended with a three-game series sweep at the hands of the Seattle Mariners.

"W inker came in, got a base hit and he did the celebration that we always do , he did that a little harder today, " Lindor said without mentioning Adams' name. " He definitely got every one of us pumped up. "

First-year Mets manager Carlos Mendoza added that his ballclub displayed " a different energy overall " at Citi Field on Wednesday.

The 62-58 Mets will need to keep that energy when they host the 51-70 Athletics on Thursday afternoon, as the National League East side now has ground to make up in the postseason race. The Mets ended Wednesday's MLB action trailing the Atlanta Braves by two games in the battle for the NL's final wild-card playoff spot.

As of Thursday morning, DraftKings Sportsbook had the Mets at +260 betting odds to qualify for the postseason tournament.
