Three silver linings in White Sox's black cloud of a season

These are dark times on Chicago's South Side.

Heading into Friday's game at the red-hot Houston Astros, the dreadful Chicago White Sox are 29-93, by far the worst record in Major League Baseball. At the trade deadline in late July, the front office failed to make a major move , and in early August, the team fired manager Pedro Grifol. Meanwhile, rumors are afloat about the franchise moving to Nashville.

But all is not lost for White Sox fans, who can revel in these silver linings in this giant, black cloud of a season:

Season tickets slashed: The club recently announced that it will lower season-ticket prices by as much as 10% for 2025. The team ranks 27th in MLB in attendance with an average of 18,307 per game, a figure that means over half the seats are routinely empty at Guaranteed Rate Field.

As recently as 2023, the Sox ranked in the top half of the league in average season-ticket price. With the price reductions, they will drop into the bottom half of the league and the lowest packages will be fairly affordable.

"We thought it was important that it's something that we do for our season-ticket holders who have been very loyal to us," Chicago senior vice president Brooks Boyer said.

The Campfire Milkshake: The drink of the year in MLB is a 16-ounce fan favorite that consists of a chocolate shake with graham crackers mixed in the whipped cream and topped with marshmallows and a chunk of Hershey’s. They haven't won multiple games in a row since June 27-29. With 13 series remaining, seven will be played against teams .500 or better.
