Dodgers place All-Star pitcher on IL with elbow tendinitis

Just minutes before Friday's game, the Dodgers placed Tyler Glasnow on the 15-day injured list with right elbow tendinitis.

Glasnow was originally scheduled to start Friday's game against the St. Louis Cardinals but was pushed back to Saturday to give him extra rest Glasnow's injury is the latest health problem the Dodger's pitching staff has faced in 2024. The Dodgers ace already went on the IL just before the All-Star break this year with lower-back tightness.

Bobby Miller, who was optioned to the minors last month, is in St. Louis with the team on the taxi squad, according to Mike DiGiovanna of the Los Angeles Times. Manager Dave Roberts said there is a chance he will now start on Saturday.

Justin Wrobleski, who was optioned when the Dodgers acquired Jack Flaherty, has impressed in his small sample size at the major league level. In four games started, he has a 4.05 ERA and 15 strikeouts in 20 innings.

Wrobleski's last start was his most impressive. He went 5.2 innings and held the Houston Astros to two runs on four hits.

Nevertheless, the Dodgers will miss Glasnow's presence in the rotation. He has 3.49 ERA in 22 games and is third in strikeouts in the National League with 168 . He has already set a career high in innings pitched with 134 and a new career best in strikeouts.

Glasnow's injury comes when the Dodgers' lead in the NL West has diminished. The San Diego Padres and Arizona Diamondbacks are two and two-and-a-half games behind Los Angeles in the division, respectively.

The Dodgers' lead in the division was seven games when the second half started on July 19.

There is no timetable for Glasnow's return.
