NASCAR Xfinity Series driver Sheldon Creed.

Make no mistake about it: Nobody knows more about Sheldon Creed's 0-90 record in the NASCAR Xfinity Series than Sheldon Creed.

The 26-year-old driver from Alpine, California, had big expectations on his shoulders when he entered the Xfinity Series in 2022. Fresh off of a championship, eight wins and three playoff appearances in three Truck Series seasons, Creed was touted as one of the top prospects in NASCAR when he signed with Richard Childress Racing in 2022.

However, a middling rookie season — only saved by a near-win at Darlington that was his best performance to date — culminated in Creed missing the playoffs, and a messy end to 2023 that included RCR drama in the cutoff race at Martinsville left bridges burned and Creed with a new team for 2024.

His first race with Joe Gibbs Racing, of course, was a runner-up finish at Daytona. Heading into Saturday's race at Michigan, Creed is tied with Dale Jarrett and Daniel Hemric with 10 runner-up finishes, the most in Xfinity Series history without a win. The next time Creed finishes second, he'll hold that record for himself, provided that elusive win continues to evade him.

The two-mile Michigan International Speedway may have something to say about Creed's 0-90 mark in Xfinity Series competition, however, as Creed put his Toyota Supra on the pole for Saturday's Cabo Wabo 250 during Friday's qualifying session. Creed was also third in practice and placed second on 10-lap averages during Friday's practice session.

With a fast car, a good team and a playoff spot to race for — Creed sits 10th, 69 points above the cut line with six regular-season races remaining — Creed seems to have all the motivation and assets he needs to prove the doubters wrong and earn his first career Xfinity Series victory.

The only thing he's still in need of? A little bit of luck, and a helping hand from fate itself.

The Cabo Wabo 250 at Michigan will go green shortly after 3:30 p.m. ET on Saturday, with coverage on USA Network, MRN, the NBC Sports App and SiriusXM NASCAR Radio.
