Sheldon Creed makes unfortunate Xfinity Series history at Michigan

If there has ever been a NASCAR driver who epitomizes heartbreak, it's Sheldon Creed.

The 26-year-old driver notched his 11th runner-up finish in 91 Xfinity Series starts on Saturday, breaking a record previously held by Daniel Hemric and Dale Jarrett for the most second-place finishes in the series without a win.

The worst part about Saturday's result for Creed? He didn't even have a chance to properly fight Justin Allgaier for the win, as the caution flag was thrown with half a lap to go, ending the Cabo Wabo 250 at Michigan under caution.

Creed won the pole for Saturday's race, but an early spin sent him to the back of the field. While he was able to claw his way back into contention, he just didn't have enough help on the race's final restart to get alongside race winner Justin Allgaier, who drove away from the field to win his second race of 2024.

As the Xfinity Series field shifts its attention to Daytona — the site of two of Creed's runner-up results — on Friday night, Creed can at least take solace in the fact that he and the No. 18 team are consistently bring fast cars to the track.

However, sports is a "what have you done for me lately" business and if Creed doesn't win soon, any Cup Series prospects he has -—whether it be with Haas or any other team — could start withering away.
