Jim Harbaugh cuts quarterback who knocked him out of 2022 CFP

It took two years, but Chargers head coach Jim Harbaugh finally got revenge against quarterback Max Duggan.

During the 2022 College Football Playoff semifinals, Duggan led TCU to a 51-45 upset win over Harbaugh's Michigan squad.

On Monday, the Chargers released Duggan two days after he didn't play in Los Angeles' Week 2 preseason loss to the Rams, per Tom Pelissero of NFL Network.

In Week 1 of the preseason, Duggan was 4-of-7 for 41 yards. He added 15 yards on two carries.

Other Chargers backup quarterbacks Easton Stick and Luis Perez were unimpressive against the Rams. Stick finished 8-of-13 for 85 yards and an interception. Perez was 13-of-20 for 78 yards.

Duggan's release marks a steep fall from those 2022 heights.

During his senior year at TCU, Duggan was 267-of-419 (63.7 percent) for 3,698 yards, 32 touchdowns and eight interceptions. He added 423 yards and nine touchdowns on the ground.

He was a Heisman finalist and finished second in voting.

After leading TCU to its CFP semifinal win over Michigan as a 7.5-point underdog , things have been rough for Duggan on the field.

The Horned Frogs were blown out by Georgia in the CFP championship game, 65-7, and Duggan fell to the Chargers in the seventh round (No. 239 overall) of the 2023 NFL Draft.

He spent most of last season on the Chargers practice squad under former head coach Brandon Staley, who was fired midseason.
