Florida State Seminoles head coach Mike Norvell.

Florida State is fired up to start the 2024 season.

The Seminoles wasted no time putting last season's year-end heartbreak behind them with an opening-drive touchdown against Georgia Tech.

Senior running back Lawrance Toafili scored a 28-yard touchdown on an inside handoff he bounced to the outside, and head coach Mike Norvell called for an unorthodox two-point conversion that gave Florida State an early 8-0 lead.

Six Seminoles linemen and tight end Brian Courtney lined up to the left of the long snapper, who side-armed the snap to Courtney. He caught the Georgia Tech defense off-guard and punched in the conversion for two points.

It was an inspired start for Florida State after its disappointing end to the 2023 season.

The Seminoles were passed over for Alabama in the final College Football Playoff rankings despite having a 13-0 record following conference championship weekend due to former starting quarterback Jordan Travis' season-ending leg injury in Week 12 against North Alabama.

With its hot start, Florida State showed it's moving forward, not looking back. Norvell might have several tricks in his bag to keep the Seminoles one step ahead of the competition.
