The countdown to Week 1 of the 2024 NFL season is underway for the Dallas Cowboys, and with that comes an amplified level of concern over CeeDee Lamb's contract situation.

Jerry Jones has provided little in the form of updates on the talks between the team and its star wide receiver, while Lamb has also remained quiet aside from a few social media posts. However, one former Cowboys legend and fellow No. 88, Michael Irvin, was more than happy to sound off on the topic during an interview with Fox 4's Mike Doocy , as The Dallas Morning News detailed.

Irvin admitted he was "disappointed" the two sides hadn't worked out a new deal yet but was steadfast in his belief that Jones and the Cowboys would get it done.

“I’m disappointed, but I understand business and I know that deal will get done,” Irvin said. “There’s a lot of things involved in that. And I just want to say this, on Jerry’s side — I know people get on Jerry. I wonder if Jerry just gave that contract up to CeeDee Lamb, which he certainly deserves and certainly has earned, he also worries about how many other people come knock on that door.”

“I think this is all part of the game that you have to play. Before that slipper falls, or right when that slipper falls off Cinderella, he’ll get a deal done.”

While Irvin's confidence in the situation is good to hear, it doesn't change the fact that Lamb missed training camp in its entirety during his holdout and is still absent with Week 1 less than two weeks away.

It would be a shock to see the Cowboys take the field against the Cleveland Browns without Lamb, but Jones and Co. have let this back-and-forth go nearly to the final hour. Jerry's always been one for drama, but this time, it's become too close for comfort for Cowboys fans.
