Buffalo Bills running back Frank Gore Jr.

This year's rookie running back class was viewed as one of the weakest positions in the 2024 NFL Draft. In fact, the first running back selected, Panthers second-round pick Jonathon Brooks, hasn't even played this preseason while he continues to recover from a torn ACL.

That has cleared the way for other overlooked rookie running backs to make their case as the class's best. According to Pro Football Focus, that is currently Bills undrafted rookie Frank Gore Jr., who was the " highest-graded rookie RB " (84.3) of the preseason.

Gore Jr. has the foundation to be successful in the NFL as the son of future Hall of Fame running back Frank Gore, the NFL's third all-time leading rusher with 16,000 yards.

That's why it was a little surprising when the 22-year-old went undrafted, but Buffalo took a chance on him, and it has already been paying off. Through the Bills' three preseason games, Gore Jr. had 33 rushes for 163 yards (4.9 yards per carry) and a touchdown along with three catches for 16 yards.

While Gore Jr.'s preseason performance has been impressive, he still isn't guaranteed a spot on the 53-man roster with cutdown day looming.

Gore Jr. is still sitting behind running backs James Cook, Ray Davis, Ty Johnson and Darrynton Evans on the depth chart . However, that has not been updated since the conclusion of Buffalo's preseason finale, during which Gore Jr. broke out with 101 rushing yards and a touchdown.

Only time will tell if Gore Jr. makes the Bills roster, but there's a good chance he does following this weekend as several teams would likely try to steal him off the practice squad if he's attempted to be put on it.

Gore Jr. rushed for 4,022 yards and 26 touchdowns and reeled in 75 catches for 692 yards and four touchdowns from 2020-2023 at Southern Miss.
