Rikishi is starting to view AEW as a potential spot for Jey Uso

In recent months, Rikishi has been vocal about his displeasure with WWE's direction for Jey Uso. The Hall of Famer believes his son should be among the main-event talents on the roster. He has consistently pointed to Uso's popularity with the fan base and his consistently high merchandise sales as reasons for the company to continue pushing him on its weekly programming.

However, despite Rikishi's outspoken opinions, Uso continues to be stuck in mid-card territory, with very little sign of a potential singles title reign soon. In a recent episode of the "Off The Top" podcast, Rikishi continued to be outspoken in defense of Uso, noting how WWE isn't the only wrestling company around.

"I’m at this point where I want to call my son, 'Go ahead and take a break. Obviously, the writers don’t know where to put you, or they can write something that is right for the character Jey Uso, The Yeet Man,'" Rikishi said. "...The kid is so good, WWE ain’t the only spot. He could probably go to AEW if he wants to write his own ticket, maybe more than what WWE is making on him."

There's no denying Uso's popularity. He gets one of the largest pops from the crowd every week. WWE is consistently creating and pushing new Jey Uso merchandise. And when he's performing in the ring, the crowd makes it clear that he's "over" with the wider WWE fan base.

Nevertheless, Uso is at his best when competing in tag-team wrestling. His most successful period in WWE came when he and Jimmy Uso were the tag-team champions. Since becoming a singles wrestler, Uso has had some big spots but has rarely been allowed to build on his popularity by becoming a champion.

With the current Bloodline story and the return of Roman Reigns, Uso could yet find himself back in the mix for the biggest storyline in wrestling history. However, that would again detract from his skill set and relationship with the fans. Yet, it could also help propel him to even greater heights.

Uso has never shown any signs of being disgruntled with his role in WWE. Rikishi is speaking from his perspective, that of a loving father. However, if Uso did decide to call time on his career with the wrestling juggernaut, there's no doubt that AEW would move mountains to add him to its roster. The merchandise sales alone would likely cover his contract.
