Dallas Cowboys QB Dak Prescott talks with team owner Jerry Jones

As exasperating as the San Francisco 49ers-Brandon Aiyuk contract drama has been this offseason, Dallas Cowboys fans would argue the contract standoff their team and quarterback Dak Prescott is right up there.

The 31-year-old QB is still without a contract beyond this season and owner Jerry Jones doesn’t seem to be in any sort of a rush to give him one — if he is going to give him one at all.

Jones seemingly shaded Prescott on Wednesday, telling reporters when asked what he need to see the quarterback, “If you haven't seen it by now, you haven't seen it,” which prompted the Pro Bowl QB to respond to the 81-year-old billionaire the next day.

“I stopped, honestly, listening to things (Jerry Jones) says to the media a long time ago,” Prescott said, via Jon Machota of The Athletic. “It doesn’t really hold weight with me.”

There was speculation the Cowboys were trying to get a deal with Prescott done before Week 1 but nothing seems to be close. The two sides have had ongoing discussions this offseason, but Prescott appeared to take a back seat while Dallas worked out CeeDee Lamb’s four-year, $134 million extension.

Both of the Cowboys' other two quarterbacks currently on roster — Cooper Rush and Trey Lance — are free agents after this coming season just like Prescott, but Jones seems to be unbothered by having no quarterback commitments in 2025. Or by the possibility of losing Prescott to free agency.

“I quit a long time ago getting bent out of shape about having anybody under contract or not,” Jones said, via ESPN . “And there's all kinds of other things other than a contract that could change the outcome of him being under contract -- injury, the level of play.”
