Heading into his 20th NFL season, New York Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers has a chance to break a record currently held by Tom Brady, but it’s probably not the kind of history Rodgers wants to make.

The 40-year-old signal-caller has been sacked 531 times in his career and if he gets taken down 35 times this season, he’ll pass Brady (565) as the most-sacked QB in NFL history.

Over the course of his career, Rodgers has taken an average of 2.29 sacks per game. If he plays the entire 2024 season, he’ll break Brady’s record by three.

Since becoming a full-time starter in 2008, Rodgers has been sacked 35 or more times in just seven seasons, but he’s also spent all of his career (minus a handful of snaps last season) playing behind much better offensive lines in Green Bay than what the Jets fielded last year.

The unit was a disaster in 2023, surrendering 280 pressures, 184 hurries, 64 sacks and 46 QB hits, per Pro Football Focus . The good news for Rodgers is that general manager Joe Douglas made a conscious effort to upgrade several positions in front of his QB this offseason, selecting left tackle Olu Fashanu in the first round of the 2024 NFL Draft, trading for right tackle Morgan Moses from the Baltimore Ravens and signing left tackle Tyron Smith and left guard John Simpson in free agency.

Smith surrendered only one sack and 18 pressures on 840 offensive snaps last season and Simpson allowed just one sack and 26 pressures while playing 1,118 offensive snaps.
