Rangers rookie OF joins Jackie Robinson in exclusive company

Texas Rangers rookie outfielder Wyatt Langford's walk-off grand slam during the team's 7-4 win against the New York Yankees on Tuesday was historic in multiple ways.

The 22-year-old's big fly was arguably the highlight of the season for the Rangers (66-73). Despite their highly disappointing World Series hangover, Tuesday's victory knocked the Yankees (80-59) out of first place in the AL East.

While the team's last regular-season walk-off grand slam was in 2008, they did have one courtesy of seven-time All-Star Nelson Cruz in Game 2 of the 2011 ALCS .

Langford's MLB career got off to a rough start, as he hit just one home run and produced a .222/.288/.286 slash line through May, but he had a huge June, recording three home runs, 22 RBI and a .309/.368/.526 triple slash. The effort was enough to earn him AL Rookie of the Month honors.

Last year's fourth overall pick has had some remarkable individual moments this season, which have placed him in company with Hall of Famer Jackie Robinson.

With his game-winning blast against New York, Langford has three walk-off hits this season, trailing only Philadelphia Phillies outfielder Nick Castellanos for the most in MLB.

Castellanos had his fourth walk-off knock of the year on Sunday during Philadelphia's 3-2 win over the Atlanta Braves.
