NFL players who could retire after the 2024 season

NFL stars can't play forever, and retirement is coming sooner than later for some of the league's top players. These 25 players could call it quits following the 2024 season.

Odell Beckham Jr., WR, Dolphins (1 of 25)

Beckham is becoming a journeyman as he hopes for another Super Bowl as a role player, signing with the Dolphins in the offseason. The 31-year-old has clearly lost a step, with only 35 receptions in 14 games for the Ravens last season, and could call it quits soon.

Calais Campbell, DL, Dolphins (2 of 25)

The 38-year-old Campbell has stated he signed with Miami to win, now in his 17th season. He remained productive in Atlanta last season, recording 6.5 sacks, but could be more of a role player this season.

Lavonte David, LB, Buccaneers (3 of 25)

The elder statesman of the Buccaneers defense, David enters his 13th season. He had a strong year in 2023 at age 33, but the cliff can come quickly for defensive players.

Demario Davis, LB, Saints (4 of 25)

Davis has seen a remarkable run since joining the Saints in 2018, now making back-to-back Pro Bowls in his mid-30s. The linebacker is now 35 as one of the oldest defensive players in the league.

Ezekiel Elliott, RB, Cowboys (5 of 25)

Elliott is back in Dallas after one year away, when he was a part-time player with the Patriots. He's likely to be part of a running back committee in his Cowboys return, and has shown some deterioration with less than four yards per carry in back-to-back seasons. Approaching age 30, Elliott could be in his final season.

Zach Ertz, TE, Commanders (6 of 25)

Ertz has played a total of 17 games over the last two seasons with Arizona, and will now be a part of the Washington offense. He's shown decline since his Eagles days and will be 34 in November.

Joe Flacco, QB, Colts (7 of 25)

Flacco showed he had some life left last year in Cleveland, going 4-1 as Deshaun Watson's replacement. He adds veteran leadership behind Anthony Richardson in Indy this year, but Flacco is 39.

Nick Folk, PK, Titans (8 of 25)

Folk enters his second season with Tennessee after stays in Dallas, the Jets, Tampa Bay, and New England. He had his most accurate season on field goals last year, but Folk will turn 40 in November.

Stephon Gilmore, CB, Vikings (9 of 25)

Gilmore joined his fifth team in five years when he signed with the Vikings in training camp. The former Defensive Player of the Year remains productive, but he's also one of the oldest defensive backs in the league turning 34 in September.

Brandon Graham, DE, Eagles (10 of 25)

Graham has already stated he's entering his final year at age 36, his 15th in the NFL with the Eagles. He had three sacks as a situational pass rusher last season and has 73 sacks for his career.

Cameron Heyward, DT, Steelers (11 of 25)

Heyward's streak of six straight Pro Bowls ended last year, as he played only 11 games due to injury. Now 35, Heyward would probably like to end his career on a better note and pad what is potentially a Hall of Fame resume.

Kareem Jackson, S, Bills (12 of 25)

Jackson shifted from cornerback to safety later in his career, and is likely going to be a part-time player with the Bills this season. The 36-year-old is hoping for a Super Bowl after long stays in Houston and Denver.

Lane Johnson, RT, Eagles (13 of 25)

Johnson has been arguably the best right tackle in the game in his 11-year career, making five Pro Bowls. He's coming off a strong year, but a history of injuries and age at 34 could put retirement in the near future.

Cameron Jordan, DE, Saints (14 of 25)

After six consecutive Pro Bowls, Jordan's stats crashed last season with only two sacks and 43 tackles. He's very likely a Hall of Famer with 117.5 sacks while playing his entire career in New Orleans, but could be headed toward retirement after his age-35 season.

Marcedes Lewis, TE, Bears (15 of 25)

Lewis has played an incredible 18 seasons and enters his second year with the Bears. At this point, he's mostly a blocker, and could finally retire following his age-40 season.

Tyrann Mathieu, S, Saints (16 of 25)

Mathieu is in his third season with his hometown Saints after winning a Super Bowl with Kansas City. The three-time Pro Bowler remains one of the top safeties in the league but is on the backend of his career at age 32.

Von Miller, EDGE, Bills (17 of 25)

Miller has missed time to injury in each of the last two seasons with the Bills, and failed to record a sack in 12 games last season. He's hoping to show improvement at age 35 this season with a shot at another Super Bowl.

Jordan Poyer, S, Dolphins (18 of 25)

After seven seasons in Buffalo, Poyer signed with the rival Dolphins as he hopes to win a Super Bowl at age 33. The safety continues to play at a high level, but is now one of the oldest players in the league.

Matt Prater, PK, Cardinals (19 of 25)

Prater enters his 18th NFL season at age 40 and now his fourth year in Arizona. He continues to be productive and show great range, but is one of the oldest players in football.

Aaron Rodgers, QB, Jets (20 of 25)

Rodgers will be 41 in December, and missed almost all of 2023 after tearing his Achilles in Week 1. He hopes to show he has a lot left this season, but his ability to be productive remains to be seen as the oldest quarterback in the NFL.

Harrison Smith, S, Vikings (21 of 25)

Smith enters his 13th year with the Vikings, now a borderline Hall of Famer with six Pro Bowls. He continued to shine last season, but Smith is one of the oldest players in the league at 35.

Tyron Smith, LT, Jets (22 of 25)

Smith played his first 13 seasons in Dallas, but joins the Jets this season at age 33. Injuries have been a big issue for much of his career despite making eight Pro Bowls, as he hopes to stay on the field with his new team.

Matthew Stafford, QB, Rams (23 of 25)

Stafford rebounded from an injury-plagued 2022 season to make the Pro Bowl last year at age 35. A history of injuries and a rebuilding roster could spur Stafford to hang up his cleats soon.

Bobby Wagner, LB, Commanders (24 of 25)

Wagner continues his incredible run after joining Washington in the offseason. He's a surefire Hall of Famer with nine Pro Bowls, and led the league with 183 tackles last season. However, changing teams in three consecutive years and age (34) could cause Wagner to opt for retirement after this year.

Trent Williams, LT, 49ers (25 of 25)

Williams held out from training camp as he looked for an even bigger payday from the 49ers at age 36, but eventually came to an agreement with the team just ahead of the season opener. Incredibly, he's made 11 consecutive Pro Bowls and remains arguably the best left tackle in the league at age 36. Williams has still had some small injury issues in recent seasons, so retirement likely isn't far away.
