Detroit Lions wide receiver Jameson Williams (9) celebrates with wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown (14) after catching a touchdown pass against the Los Angeles Rams in the third quarter at Ford Field.

On a third-and-3 from his own 48-yard line, Detroit Lions offensive coordinator Ben Johnson didn’t play things safe, dialing up an ultra-aggressive pass play for third-year wideout Jameson Williams.

Los Angeles Rams cornerback Tre’Davious White seemingly never stood a chance of stopping the play either as Williams fooled him with a strong double-move before separating from the All-Pro CB by a good four yards as he sped into the end zone to give the Lions a 17-3 lead.

It was just the fourth touchdowns of Williams’ career. It was also his fourth career reception of 40 or more yards (nearly 15% of his career receptions have been 40 yards or longer.)

Williams’ heads-up play turned the heads of several people, including NBC broadcaster Cris Collinsworth, a former three-time Pro Bowl receiver.

“Tre’Davious White, a veteran, he’s been down this road before, he understands that speed,” Collinsworth said during the broadcast . “The double-move, he tries to break and really almost should have tackled him at that point because when you have somebody with that kind of speed, there’s just no way to catch up.”

Through three quarters, Williams led all Lions receivers with three catches for 89 yards and the score at time of publication.
