Fever's Kelsey Mitchell, Caitlin Clark accomplish WNBA first despite loss to Aces

The Indiana Fever fell to the defending champion Las Vegas Aces on Wednesday, 86-75, but Kelsey Mitchell and Caitlin Clark accomplished a WNBA first.

In the loss, Mitchell recorded three-pointer No. 100 on the season, helping etch her and Clark's names into the history books. With this year's No. 1 pick already achieving the feat, the pair are now the first set of teammates to reach the century mark from beyond the arc in the same season.

For Mitchell, it's her second consecutive season with 100 or more three-pointers, making 102 in 2023. The 28-year-old joins Arike Ogunbowale (2024, 2023) and Diana Taurasi (2018, 2006) as the only players with multiple seasons of 100 three-pointers or more, per Stathead .

On Wednesday night, Mitchell stepped up when Clark wasn't at her best, keeping the Fever within striking distance of the Aces late. The All-Star guard shot 9-of-19 from the floor and made four of seven attempts from beyond the arc, finishing with 24 points.

Meanwhile, Clark shot 27.2 percent (6-of-22) and was just 1-of-10 from three, ending the night with 16 points, six assists and three rebounds. Despite her struggles, the clear front-runner for Rookie of the Year honors also posted at least 15 points and five assists for the 28th time , increasing her single-season record.

Mitchell and Clark's efforts alone weren't enough to withstand a late-game onslaught from Aces' star A'ja Wilson. The two-time MVP scored 11 of Las Vegas' final 14 points in the victory, posting at least 27 points and 12 rebounds for the 21st time in her career while passing Jewell Loyd (939 points, 2023) for the single-season record for points in a season (956 and counting).
