New York Knicks forward Julius Randle.

Julius Randle's long-term future with the New York Knicks is in question. The three-time All-Star has two years remaining on his four-year, $117 million deal, with the final year being a player option. Therefore, Randle is expected to opt-out at the end of the 2024-2025 season, likely hoping to secure a new contract with the Knicks.

However, Jalen Brunson's decision to accept a team-friendly contract extension earlier this summer has complicated things. Brunson's sacrifice has provided the Knicks with some much-needed financial flexibility to keep the core rotation together. Unless Randle is willing to work with New York on a deal that makes sense for both sides, he could be entering his final season in the Big Apple.

According to former NBA guard Patrick Beverley, a move to the Sacramento Kings would make sense if Randle is faced with leaving the Knicks.

"It ain't personal, though," Beverley said. "It's never personal. It's always business...You can't take anything in the NBA personally...I'd like to see him with the Sacramento Kings. That would be nice. Him in Sac? That would be different."

Randle must hit unrestricted free agency to land with the Kings. Sacramento doesn't have a deep war chest of tradable assets. It also just added DeMar DeRozan to its rotation. Nevertheless, a starting five of De'Aaron Fox, Malik Monk, DeRozan, Randle and Domantas Sabonis would likely contend for a spot in the Western Conference Finals.

The Kings may not get the opportunity to pursue Randle, though. According to Brian Windhorst , who spoke on a recent episode of "The Hoop Collective" podcast, the veteran forward is a highly tradable asset and may not finish the season on Tom Thibodeau's team.

"A very attractive, $29 million this year," Windhorst said. "His player option for next year is $31 million. His value, if he’s 100%, is more than that. There is no reason why, if he’s playing at the top of his game, why he shouldn’t consider opting out of that...Because of that $29 million salary, he’s extraordinarily tradable. And, the Knicks still do have a couple of extra first-round, not extra there’s no extra anymore, but the Knicks do still have a couple of first-round picks they can move.”

Randle's future with the Knicks will be discussed throughout the upcoming season. Thibodeau must manage that distraction and ensure his team remains focused on contending for a spot in the Eastern Conference Finals.

However, sooner or later, the franchise must decide on Randle's future and how to best approach it. Otherwise, it could lose him for nothing next summer.
