    Carolina Panthers quarterback Andy Dalton.

Ahead of the 2024 NFL season, the Week 3 matchup between the Carolina Panthers and Las Vegas Raiders didn't look very exciting. But a major decision has impacted this game's watchability — and has shaken things up at sportsbooks in the process.

Following Monday's decision to start Andy Dalton in favor of Bryce Young, the Panthers have gone from being 7-point underdogs to listed at +5.5 at FanDuel . The over/under has also shifted from 37 up to 40.5.

While the decision to start Dalton surprised some, the shift at sportsbooks shouldn't, given how Young has struggled to start off his 2024 campaign. The former first overall draft pick has gone 31-of-56 for 245 yards with no touchdowns and three interceptions, so clearly a change was necessary.

Dalton's history against the Raiders likely helped the decision. He is 4-0 all-time against the Silver and Black according to StatMuse , averaging 7.5 yards per pass with seven touchdowns and no interceptions.

Still, Sunday's game won't be a cakewalk for the 0-2 Panthers. The Raiders are coming off of a 26-23 overtime upset against the Ravens in Baltimore and will be very confident. They are also 4-3 lifetime against the Panthers, winning each of the last two meetings via The Football Database .
