Matt LaFleur and Packers don't need to feel pressure to rush Jordan Love back

Green Bay Packers quarterback Jordan Love.

Green Bay Packers head coach Matt LaFleur was brilliant as a play-caller against the Indianapolis Colts in Week 2.

He molded his offense to fit backup quarterback Malik Willis — who started in place of the injured Jordan Love — and the results were epic. LaFleur's normally balanced offense went hard on the run to protect Willis and make his life easier.

The Packers rushed the ball 53 times for 261 yards, and this was with the Colts knowing that running the ball was priority 1A on Green Bay's game plan.

The Packers executed perfectly, and speaking of, when asked to step up and make the throws, Willis looked anything but an inexperienced potential bust. He completed 12-of-14 passes for just 122 yards, but he threw a touchdown and had a passer rating of 126.8.

LaFleur's game plan plus his offense's ability to execute it led to a 16-10 win that wasn't as close as the final score indicated. The Packers dominated the time of possession battle, 40:11 to 19:49, and Green Bay's defense forced three turnovers.

It was a perfect game to show the Packers' ability to win in any situation, but the biggest takeaway was that Green Bay doesn't have to rush Love back from his MCL injury.

The initial timeline for Love's recovery was three to four weeks and reporting from NFL insider Ian Rapoport suggests that timeline is accurate. Love is said to be targeting a Week 5 return, which means he'd miss two more games (against the Tennessee Titans and Minnesota Vikings).

And yes, ESPN's Rob Demovsky later reported that Love was close to playing against Indy and he's not entirely convinced the QB will sit against the Titans, but there's no reason for the Packers to rush Love back.

While you never want to play without your $220 million star quarterback, the Packers have to now feel confident that they can tread water without Love at the very least, if not straight up keep winning games.

LaFleur may not be able to pound the rock against every opponent as he did against Indy, but Willis looked able to execute the offense, the defense held up its end of the bargain and the combination of Josh Jacobs, MarShawn Lloyd and Emanuel Wilson out of the backfield with a smattering of run-like looks for Jayden Reed should keep Green Bay's run offense potent.

Ultimately, the pressure is off Green Bay to rush Love back, which should allow him to completely heal up just in time for a midseason push to the playoffs.

From looking like a potentially lost season with Love writhing on the ground in pain at the end of Week 1 to a team that looks like it can win despite any adversity, the Packers are living the best-case scenario at the moment.
