Jayden Daniels reveals what Terry McLaurin told him before key TD in win over Bengals

Terry McLaurin told his quarterback he'd get it done late in the Washington Commanders' "Monday Night Football" win. He backed up that promise by hauling in a pivotal 27-yard touchdown catch on a perfect pass from Jayden Daniels with just over two minutes remaining.
Daniels and McLaurin connected on the pitch-and-catch on third-and-7 to give the Commanders a two-score lead and effectively put the game out of reach for Joe Burrow and the Cincinnati Bengals.
But just before the play, and after McLaurin asked offensive coordinator Kliff Kingsbury to call it, the wide receiver had a two-word message for his rookie quarterback, as Daniels explained to NFL Network's Cameron Wolfe .
"Trust me."
Daniels did one better for McLaurin. Not only did the No. 2 overall pick in the 2024 draft throw it up for his top wideout, but he also put it right on the money and waited just long enough while absorbing contact to make sure McLaurin could make a play.
Jayden Daniels-Terry McLaurin connection gives a glimpse of bright future
The comment from McLaurin to Daniels was even more noteworthy when considering the result was the first touchdown thrown by the rookie to an actual pass-catcher in his NFL career. Daniels threw his first career touchdown earlier on Monday night, but it went to offensive tackle Trent Scott.
McLaurin's key grab on Monday night perfectly defined how a player can earn a young quarterback's trust. Even more than that, Daniels earned that same trust from his top wideout, not only with the touchdown pass but also his performance. The Heisman Trophy winner set an NFL rookie record by completing 91.3 percent of his passes (21-of-23 attempts) and totaled three touchdowns while going blow-for-blow with Burrow throughout the night.
For McLaurin, this marked a breakthrough night with his new quarterback. After totaling just 39 yards in the first two games combined, he broke through with four catches for 100 yards to go with the late-game score. It became apparent in Washington's Week 2 win over the New York Giants that Daniels prioritized his top wideout, as McLaurin caught 6-of-8 targets but finished the day with only 22 yards.
Monday night was a different story, and if this trajectory continues, Daniels and McLaurin could quickly become the NFL's next must-watch quarterback-wide receiver duo.
