Detroit Lions head coach Dan Campbell.

Detroit Lions running back David Montgomery recorded season highs in carries (23) and rushing yards (105) during the team's 20-13 win over the Arizona Cardinals in Week 3 on Sunday.

His longest run of the game came midway through the fourth quarter on the team's first play of their penultimate drive of the contest, as he burst up the middle for a good chunk gain. As Montgomery approached the first down marker, it appeared that he'd be tackled, but that's when he went airborne.

Instead of leaping over defenders though, the former third-round pick trucked into a quartet of Cardinals before a slew of teammates lifted Montgomery into the air. The 27-year-old was carried in the pile and surfed his way for an additional six yards and a 16-yard gain before finally going to the ground.

Lions head coach Dan Campbell discussed the play on Tuesday and had a weird analogy to describe how impressed he was with the highlight.

The latest gem joins a long list of entertaining quotes from Campbell, as he's gained a reputation as being one of the most interesting wordsmiths in the league since being hired three years ago.

Last summer, the 48-year-old Campbell said that he'd wanted the organization to have a pet lion since he was hired in 2021. Campbell even noted that team owner Sheila Ford Hamp approved of the idea, but the NFL "frowns on that."

Two months ago, when asked about Jameson Williams throwing up after hauling in a touchdown reception during practice, Campbell said that the wideout could do it "all he wants" as long as he "keeps making those plays."

Whether it's referencing breastmilk, lions or throwing up, the former tight end always seems to have something new to say that makes him one of the most eccentric coaches in the league.
