RB Kareem Hunt ready to 'shock the world' in reunion with Chiefs

Running back Kareem Hunt was drafted by the Chiefs in the third round of the 2017 NFL Draft. After five years away, he has made his return to Kansas City.

Hunt's reunion with the Chiefs is only coming due to running back Isiah Pacheco suffering a fractured fibula in Week 2, but he's looking forward proving himself in his second stint with the team that drafted him, nonetheless.

"Yeah, I believe I'm very capable of that still," Hunt said , via Nick Shook of NFL.com. "I'm excited to go help shock the world and show them I've still got it."

Hunt had spent the past five seasons with the Cleveland Browns, acting as a complement to running back Nick Chubb.

It was a role he was quite successful in, rushing for 2,285 yards and 25 touchdowns during the span.

Hunt seems to be set up for a similar role in Kansas City, with running backs Carson Steele and Samaje Perine in line to receive the bulk of the workload.

"I see a lot of talent around here," Hunt continued. "They've had a bunch of talent ever since I was here. Seeing the way Pat (Mahomes) has grown and matured and became the leader of this team...I couldn't be happier."

Hunt's first run with the Chiefs came to an end in 2018 when he was involved in a physical altercation with a woman in a Cleveland hotel. That led to his placement on the Reserve/Commissioner Exempt List and being released by Kansas City.

The 29-year-old has kept out of trouble since, which is why the Chiefs likely welcomed a reunion with him.

Hunt isn't the lead back he once was, but he's willing to play whatever role Kansas City needs him to as it tries to become the first team in NFL history to three-peat.

"It's been a long time coming," Hunt finished. "I can't wait to put on the red again and go out there with these guys and put it all on the line for them. I envision going out there, and whatever I'm asked to do, do it at the highest level and help find a way to keep this winning going on around here."

Hunt has rushed for 4,436 yards and 40 touchdowns and registered 226 catches for 1,890 yards and 17 touchdowns in his seven-year NFL career.
