A glimpse at the weekend ahead in the topsy-turvy Presidents Cup

After two dramatic opening days in the 2024 Presidents Cup, commencing with the United States sweeping its way to a seemingly insurmountable 5-0 lead on Thursday, only to have the favor returned by the International Team on Friday, the teams head into weekend play at The Royal Montreal Golf Club all knotted up, 5-5.

On tap for the morning session of Day 3 are four matches of four-ball. The rules governing four-ball are straightforward, as set forth in Rule 23 of the Rules of the United States Golf Association (USGA):

• "Two partners compete together as a side, with each player playing their own ball."
• "A side's score for a hole is the lower score of the two partners on that hole."

The morning four-ball lineup has been announced:

• Match 1: Adam Scott and Taylor Pendrith (International) vs. Scottie Scheffler and Collin Morikawa (USA)
• Match 2: Corey Conners and Mackenzie Hughes (International) vs. Tony Finau and Xander Schauffele (USA)
• Match 3: Si Woo Kim and Tom Kim (International) vs. Keegan Bradley and Wyndham Clark (USA)
• Match 4: Hideki Matsuyama and Sungjae Im (International) vs. Patrick Cantlay and Sam Burns (USA)

The teams will then play a quartet of foursome matches in the afternoon session. The foursome format is also known as the alternate shot format. Two partners play one ball and alternate shots.

The lineups for the afternoon foursome sessions have yet to be announced.

On Sunday, 12 players on both teams will square off in singles matches .

The Americans are heavy favorites, with five of their team members ranked in the top 10 of the Official World Golf Ranking . Scheffler is No. 1, Schauffele is No. 2, Morikawa is No. 4, Clark is No. 6 and Cantlay is No. 9. The only member of the International Team in the top 10 is Matsuyama, ranked No. 7.
