Reporter addresses whether Chiefs will trade for a WR after Rashee Rice's injury

After second-year wide receiver Rashee Rice possibly suffered a season-ending injury in Sunday's road game vs. the Los Angeles Chargers, the Kansas City Chiefs should add another wideout.

Rice was carted off the field after colliding with Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes, who was trying to tackle Chargers cornerback Kristian Fulton during an interception return. Per ESPN's Adam Schefter, Rice is feared to have torn his ACL and will undergo further testing to confirm the diagnosis.

If Rice misses the rest of the season, that would be a massive loss for K.C. Through four games, he leads the Chiefs in receptions (24), receiving yards (288 ) and TD catches (two). ESPN's Dan Graziano thinks the defending Super Bowl champions can still win without Rice but expects them to acquire another WR before the trade deadline on Nov. 5.

"Sure, tight end Travis Kelce had a big game, and rookie WR Xavier Worthy made his share of big plays (including a 54-yard TD catch)," Graziano wrote in his Monday column. "But the Chiefs are getting pretty thin at the offensive skill positions. And as they position themselves to try to become the first team to win three Super Bowls in a row, they might need to have their antennae up on the trade market."

Chiefs WR Marquise "Hollywood" Brown (shoulder) was recently placed on injured reserve and is expected to miss the regular season. Starting running back Isiah Pacheco (fibula) was also placed on IR and is slated to miss six to eight weeks.

Although the Chiefs are 4-0, these injuries will likely hinder their Super Bowl chances. Adding more firepower would make sense.

The Chiefs should consider trading for veteran WRs, perhaps Amari Cooper (Cleveland Browns) or DeAndre Hopkins (Tennessee Titans).

Regardless, don't expect the Chiefs to stand pat. In his Monday column, The Athletic's Mike Sando noted they landed a WR before the deadline over the past two seasons (Kadarius Toney in 2022 and Mecole Hardman Jr. in 2023).

Rice's injury may convince them to trade for a WR again.
