New England Patriots quarterback Jacoby Brissett.

First-year New England Patriots head coach Jerod Mayo and veteran quarterback Jacoby Brissett understand fans and even some media members want Mayo to replace Brissett in the lineup with rookie Drake Maye.

During a Monday afternoon appearance on Boston sports radio station WEEI, Brissett spoke about the undeniable outside noise hovering over the 1-3 club at the beginning of October.

"I don’t control that part of this whole process thing at all," Brissett explained, as shared by Karen Guregian of MassLive. "Do I hear it? Yeah, of course. I’m not deaf. I’m not blind to the fact that this organization...we drafted this guy No. 3 overall. That’s what people feel like they want to see. I just try to block it out and just do my thing."

The Brissett-led Patriots have lost three straight games and, per ESPN stats, rank 31st in the NFL with an average of 13.0 points per contest. While Brissett can't be blamed for the fact that New England may have the league's worst offensive line, Pro Football Reference shows he ended Week 4 ranked 25th in the NFL with a 42.3 adjusted QBR, 29th with a 37.9% passing success rate and 32nd with an average of 134.0 passing yards per game.

Such numbers aren't good enough from any signal-caller, let alone one who is clearly a bridge option at the position. Nevertheless, Brissett isn't going to let the outside noise get to him.

"At the same time," Brissett continued, " a lot of those people don’t know me...so therefore, I could care less. Why waste my time to worry about the people who say those things? I kind of just block it out."

Mayo insisted while speaking with reporters on Monday that "Jacoby is 100% our starter" for this coming Sunday's home game against a 1-3 Miami Dolphins side that suffered a blowout 31-12 loss to the previously winless Tennessee Titans on Monday night. As of Tuesday morning, DraftKings Sportsbook listed the Patriots as one-point favorites against the Dolphins.

If Brissett fails to guide New England to a victory at Gillette Stadium this weekend, he could find himself a spectator for the Week 6 matchup versus the Houston Texans (3-1).
