Iga Swiatek makes pair of huge announcements

World No. 1 Iga Swiatek has had an up-and-down 2024 season.

Since winning her third straight French Open singles crown (fourth overall) on June 8, the Polish superstar has experienced notable losses in the Summer Olympics in Paris and the U.S. Open.

Swiatek made a pair of massive announcements on Friday, hoping to get herself back on track.

In addition to ending her partnership with coach Tomasz Wiktorowski, Swiatek said she's withdrawn from the upcoming China Open in Beijing for personal reasons. The defending champion of the event, she recently pulled out of the Korea Open in Seoul due to fatigue and hasn't competed since losing to Jessica Pegula in the U.S. Open quarterfinals on Sept. 4 .

The 23-year-old's fourth French Open title was her fifth major victory overall (she won the 2022 U.S. Open). In addition to her upset loss against Pegula, Swiatek had to settle for the bronze medal at the Olympics.

The Queen of Clay fell to Zheng Qinwen in straight sets in the semifinals after entering the tournament as the heavy favorite and having only lost once at Roland-Garros since 2020.

Swiatek chose Wiktorowski as her coach at the end of the 2021 campaign, and she won four of her five Grand Slam singles championships with him. Wiktorowski helped Swiatek win 19 of her 22 career titles in singles play during their time together.
