New York Giants wide receiver Malik Nabers.

New York Giants fans hoping rookie star receiver Malik Nabers would be ready to start Sunday received disappointing news on Friday.

Head coach Brian Daboll revealed to reporters ( h/t Dan Salomone ) that Nabers will not play against the Seattle Seahawks and is still navigating the NFL concussion protocol, having not practiced all week.

April's No. 6 overall pick hit his head on the sideline turf during the team's Week 4 "Thursday Night Football" loss to the Dallas Cowboys.

Daboll said Thursday that Nabers was making "progress" and that the team would wait until game time to decide his availability.

It's unclear if Nabers' condition regressed Friday for Daboll to have ruled him out so quickly after making those comments.

The league's concussion protocol has six steps , with step No. 3 being a return to practice. So, it appears Nabers has not recovered enough to make it halfway through the protocol.

Quarterback Daniel Jones will now be without his top producer in Nabers , who has posted 386 receiving yards and three touchdowns through four games.

Nevertheless, New York will have to scheme its offense around remaining receivers Darius Slayton, Wan'Dale Robinson and Jalin Hyatt, who have combined for 373 yards and just one touchdown this year.

New York is 1-3, having found the endzone solely away from home this year. However, Sunday's matchup in Seattle won't be as simple as showing up as road warriors.

The Seahawks defense has only allowed nine touchdowns so far this season, just two of them through the air. So, Jones and Co. will have their work cut out against the NFC West's top team.
