Brad Keselowski is no stranger to Talladega heartbreak in 2024

If there was ever a movie that described Brad Keselowski's 2024 results at Talladega, it'd be the 1993 hit "Groundhog Day."

For the second time in as many Talladega races this season, Keselowski finished second at the Alabama venue, coming just six one-thousandths of a second short of a victory.

In April, a spinning Michael McDowell slowed down Keselowski just enough for Tyler Reddick to squeak by and claim the win. On Sunday, it was Ricky Stenhouse Jr. stealing a triumph from the 2012 champ, as Keselowski just didn't have enough of a push from Kyle Larson to seal the deal.

As a six-time Talladega winner, Keselowski is no stranger to running up front at the 2.66-mile oval. That was clear on Sunday afternoon, as the veteran driver could often be seen battling for the lead, especially early in the race with pole sitter Michael McDowell.

Keselowski and the No. 6 team opted to lay back at points to avoid getting caught up in 'The Big One', but as fate would have it, Keselowski would inadvertently cause the crash, tapping the back bumper of Austin Cindric's Mustang to instigate a 28-car pile up — the biggest crash in the history of the NASCAR Cup Series.

Keselowski forged on into NASCAR overtime, however, battling Ricky Stenhouse Jr. door-to-door for the win. Unfortunately, he came up just feet short of a seventh Talladega triumph.

The good news? Keselowski is proving that despite both cars no longer competing for the championship, RFK Racing is still capable of bringing winning cars to the track. Keselowski's teammate, Chris Buescher, won Stage 1 and led 12 laps before being shuffled to 17th when the checkered flag flew.

Regardless of the moral victories present for the superspeedway ace, the heartbreak of two runner-up finishes at the same track in the same season will ring clearly for Keselowski, who has all the motivation he needs when the circuit returns to Talladega in the spring of 2025.
