    Spencer Rattler.

Three rookie quarterbacks have made their first career starts so far this season with New England's Drake Maye set to make it four on Sunday against Houston.

However, buried in the breaking news fest Tuesday is the fact that the New Orleans Saints could tap a fifth rookie to make his first start on Sunday.

With starter Derek Carr expected to miss multiple games due to an oblique injury sustained in Monday's loss to Kansas City, rookie passer Spencer Rattler is a "strong candidate" in line to get under center against Tampa Bay, per NFL Network's Mark Garafolo and Ian Rapoport .

Rattler, drafted 150th overall in April out of South Carolina, recorded 10,807 total passing yards and 77 touchdowns over five seasons in college (which included three years at Oklahoma).

He seemed to impress in the preseason for New Orleans, tossing 202 passing yards on 20 completions (53 percent) and scoring two total touchdowns.

Rattler, if chosen, would be jumping the No. 2 quarterback on New Orleans' depth chart in Jake Haener.

A fourth-round pick in 2023, Haener replaced Carr after his injury in the fourth quarter of Monday night's loss to Kansas City. He completed just 2 of 7 passes for 17 yards. He never saw any regular-season action last season.

New Orleans plays Tampa Bay on Sunday and then Denver on a short week for "Thursday Night Football" on Oct. 17.
