New York Giants head coach Brian Daboll.

The New York Giants were without their star rookie wide receiver, Malik Nabers, on Sunday, but the result of their game against the Seattle Seahawks suggests they didn't miss him much.

New York's 29-20 win over Seattle featured quarterback Daniel Jones throwing for 257 yards and two touchdowns, his second-best start of the year.

Jones credited his efforts and the win to New York's "deep room," telling reporters Wednesday that he feels strongly the team "has a lot of guys who can make plays" in the wake of injuries.

"We've said all along we're confident in our group," Jones said. "You saw that on Sunday, guys stepping up."

Jones should be glad to hear his top receiving option in Nabers is making progress after dealing with a concussion since the end of New York's Week 4 loss to Dallas.

Head coach Brian Daboll ruled Nabers out of the game in Seattle after the rookie failed to advance through the league's concussion protocol during the week.

However, on Wednesday Daboll told reporters that Nabers is "doing better" and is still "day-to-day" while he navigates the protocol.

"We're going to get him out here on the grass today," Daboll said. "He didn't do that last week, he's doing better, but again we take that seriously and we're going to go through each step, but he is doing better, so we'll see how he does after he does some activity out there on grass today."

Daboll's update suggests Nabers has reached the fourth step of the league's five-step protocol , "club-based non-contact training drills."

If he does well with those, the protocol states the club physician and an independent neurological consultant must clear Nabers before he can return to full-contact practice.

It's unclear if Nabers will be able to clear the final step of the protocol before Sunday's primetime bout with the Cincinnati Bengals.
