Los Angeles Dodgers two-way player Shohei Ohtani (17) reacts after hitting an RBI single against the New York Mets in the second inning during Game 1 of the NLCS for the 2024 MLB Playoffs at Dodger Stadium.

The Los Angeles Dodgers didn't wait long to open the scoring against the New York Mets in Game 1 of the National League Championship Series, batting three runs across the plate through two innings.

In the first inning, after Mets starter Kodai Senga loaded the bases with three consecutive walks, Max Muncy came up with a clutch two-out single, scoring Mookie Betts and Freddie Freeman.

The Dodgers would strike again in the second inning. With Gavin Lux on second after a lead-off walk and a sacrifice bunt by Tommy Edman, Shohei Ohtani singled to increase their lead to 3-0.

Muncy's first-inning hit is an excellent sign for the Dodgers' infielder, who's struggled so far in the postseason. The 34-year-old finished only 3-of-18 with more strikeouts (six) than RBI (one) over the five-game NLDS versus the San Diego Padres. If he can give L.A. some pop out of the six-hole, it will provide an already potent lineup another weapon against the underdog Mets.

Meanwhile, Ohtani continues to stay hot with a chance to drive in runs. During the playoffs, the Dodgers have gone 0-of-11 with no one on base, but 5-of-7 with runners in scoring position.

Everything seems to be clicking early for the Dodgers, but the Mets may have them right where they want them. Over their amazing run to the NLCS, New York is 4-0 when allowing opponents to score first.
