New York Yankees first baseman Anthony Rizzo (48) gets caught in a rundown during the sixth inning against the Cleveland Guardians in Game 2 of the ALCS.

The New York Yankees are just two wins from their first World Series appearance in 15 years, but that doesn't mean they're playing flawless baseball.

During the bottom of the sixth of Tuesday night's ALCS Game 2 against the Cleveland Guardians, Yankees first baseman Anthony Rizzo committed an inning-ending baserunning blunder.

When Cleveland relief pitcher Pedro Avila's 0-2 offering to Yankees second baseman Gleyber Torres bounced in the dirt, Rizzo took off for third base but got stuck in a rundown. After he was finally tagged out at third, legendary Yankees radio play-by-play announcer John Sterling explained how it was the latest in a long line of New York baserunning miscues.

"Boy, if that wasn't the Yankees... That's what they do. Run the bases like drunks," Sterling said.

The 86-year-old began calling Yankees games in 1989 and worked 5,060 consecutive contests until that streak ended in the summer of 2019. Sterling announced his retirement in April but returned late in the season for the team's playoff run temporarily.

He was on the call for five of New York's record 27 World Series titles, including four in five years (1996, 1998-2000). The Yankees last won a championship in 2009, however.

They'll look to take a commanding 3-0 lead against the Guardians in Game 3, which takes place on Thursday at 5:08 p.m. ET.
