Davante Adams trade could result in another Jets WR returning to his former team

The Los Angeles Chargers released wide receiver Mike Williams on March 13 after he spent the first seven years of his career with the team.

Williams signed with the New York Jets on March 19, and Gang Green hoped the Clemson product would show his 2019 form (when he led the NFL with 20.4 yards per reception) or 2021 days (when he posted career highs in receptions with 76 and receiving yards at 1,146). Instead, coming off last year's season-ending torn ACL in Week 3, Williams has struggled to fit in with the Jets.

Now, with Davante Adams joining New York , the former seventh overall pick could be on the move. According to Dianna Russini of The Athletic, the Chargers are among a handful of teams interested in Williams in what would be a quicker-than-anticipated reunion.

The eighth-year pro ranks fifth on New York's struggling offense in targets (17), receptions (10) and receiving yards (145) and has failed to find the end zone through six games (two starts).

Williams is clearly behind star wideout Garrett Wilson and fellow wide receiver Allen Lazard (a longtime teammate and favorite target of quarterback Aaron Rodgers) on the target tree, and the Adams trade will likely make him dispensable.

Williams is coming off his second goose egg of the year, as he finished the team's Week 6 loss against the Buffalo Bills with no catches on three targets.

Chargers wideout Joshua Palmer would certainly be one player who'd be thrilled to see his ex-teammate back on the West Coast, as he called the 2017 draft pick one of his " best friends " following the latter's departure.

The NFL trade deadline is Nov. 5.
