A young man's stroll onto a freeway ended in a violent encounter with a moving semi-truck this morning on Interstate 5 in Mountlake Terrace. KOMO News reports that the incident took place near 220th Street SW, when the 22-year-old from Marysville was struck by the truck while allegedly under the influence.

SEATTLE — Prosecutors say a woman was not justified when she fatally shot her boyfriend after a fight in a parking lot in Newcastle last year. According to court filings, Bryanna Bernardez, 23, was charged this week with one count of manslaughter in the first degree for killing her boyfriend, Tyair Stump.
Former Seattle mayor Charley Royer dies at 84
Charley Royer, Seattle’s longest-serving mayor, has died at age 84. He was the city’s 48th chief executive. Mayor from 1978-1990, Royer was ahead of his time in many ways. He established low-income housing to combat homelessness. Royer decided that the city would recognize domestic partnerships and provided city benefits to those families. He oversaw the development of the Washington State Convention Center.

Former Seattle mayor, KING 5 anchor Charles Royer passes away
SEATTLE — Former mayor of Seattle and KING 5 News anchor Charles "Charley" Royer passed away Friday morning, July 26. Royer was Seattle's longest-serving mayor, serving three terms from 1978 to 1990. As mayor, he worked to establish low-income housing measures in the city, implemented what is recognized as the national model of recycling and solid waste reduction, opened over 20 community health clinics, and more, according to a press release published on behalf of the family. In 1989, the National Urban Coalition even named Royer the Distinguished Urban Mayor of the Year.

This Washington Fire Year Really Isn’t Easy!
Current Situation: The Easy Fire is burning through dense timber, dead trees, and ground vegetation on very steep terrain. Activity near State Route 20 has moderated, but there is still fire within the north and south sides of the perimeter.
