Fort Stevens Elementary’s Eagle Leaders and Eaglets, the school’s leadership club, collected 5,200 boxes of macaroni and cheese during its food drive in the month of March. The boxes were distributed evenly to each school in Yelm Community Schools to help with weekly food bags for students in need of extra food. The Rotary Club of Yelm helped distribute boxes to schools.

To celebrate the successful food drive, the school created a domino-type maze with boxes of macaroni and cheese that snaked through the whole school with a giant maze in the gymnasium on Friday, May 3. Students earned different awards for bringing in certain numbers of boxes, such as free recess and a movie ice cream party. The second grade brought in the most boxes and earned a macaroni and cheese party. Second grader Kinslee Causey donated the most food and got to tip over the first domino to begin the maze. She was able to bring in the most because her grandfathers kept trying to outdo each other by donating to her.
