As the unforgiving heat of the desert continues to cast its presence over Las Vegas, residents can expect the mercury to push a few degrees higher than usual through Friday. The National Weather Service in Reno, operating for the Las Vegas area, published their forecast indicating that temperatures will sit 2 to 5 degrees above the norm for this time of year. However, the scorching heat isn't the only thing on watch, as the weekend forecasts spell the return of monsoonal moisture, bringing prospects of showers and thunderstorms to southeast Nevada, northwest Arizona, and the eastern Mojave Desert of California.

West Nile Virus has been discovered in Las Vegas, only 100 miles from the Utah Border. A record number of mosquitoes in Las Vegas are carrying West Nile virus, prompting local health officials to warn the public to be careful and take precautions. Recently, 169 out of over 24,000 mosquito pools tested positive for West Nile across the state. This early season count breaks previous records set 5 years ago.
