Yonkers students from Fordham Prep won the shuttle hurdle relay event at a recent national competition.

    Nike Indoor Nationals

The National Scholastic Athletics Foundation (NSAF) hosted the Nike Indoor Nationals (NIN) on March 8 through 10 in the Nike Track & Field Center at The Armory in New York City. 4,100 of the country's top middle and high school athletes competed on the “ fastest track in the world .”

In 2004, the NIN became the pinnacle of Track & Field achievement and this year it returns to The Armory. The Armory has been long known as a central hub for sports and community, a home to more track records than any other indoor facility globally.

Competitors from across the country took the field and competed for national titles and athletic acclaim. The meet featured Championship and Emerging Elite divisions along with certain Freshman and Middle School events.

Fordham Prep & The Shuttle Relay

Fordham Preparatory School has maintained an illustrious athletics program with a Track & Field Hall of Fame dating back to the 1970s. The school is a home of champions on city, state, and national levels of competition across several different teams. Their track & field division specifically won two New York State titles during the 2021-2022 school year.

The shuttle hurdle relay was the main event and Fordham Prep led the pack. This race involves continuously passing off a baton to the following runner while sprinting over obstacles until the final team-member crosses the finish line.

While not a typical event in local competitions, Alfonso Pimentel of the Bronx , Christian Camara of Bronxville, Jonathan Bailey, and Aiden Bedford, both of Yonkers, ran 30.15. This showing bestows All-American status along with their win of the shuttle hurdle relay title in the 55-meter race.

The Armory provided an exceptional venue for athletes to compete for national titles and acclaim. And Fordham Prep's victory at this national event add to the program's rich athletic legacy.
