A man from Yonkers finds himself behind bars after an alleged robbery attempt of a local news cameraman in Chester Township, PA .

    A reported robbery

The incident occurred shortly after cameraman John Fox and reporter Marcus Espinoza wrapped up a live standup report for Fox 29 News. The victims recounted that after concluding their broadcast, a masked individual accosted John Fox by demanding money. The confrontation unfolded on Concord Road, within the gravel lot across from A&C Kitchens.

Despite Fox’s refusal, the suspect persisted, threatening him and attempting to coerce cash or a gas card via CashApp. Fox retreated to his news van, where the assailant physically confronted him, pushing him backward and attempting to gain entry to his news van. Fox made it safely into his van, as the attacker persistent for a moment before ultimately leaving the scene. Espinoza all the while witnessed the altercation from his own vehicle.

Fox and Espinoza promptly reported the incident to Chester Township Cpl. J. Rattmann upon arriving at the police station. They noted that at one point during the incident, the attacker pulled down his mask; revealing his face. Also, that there were two other men present, but neither engaged in the crime. They said all three men absconded in the direction of the nearby Highland Motel.

Police obtained surveillance footage of the Highland Motel and captured the three men on video. They soon identified and arrested 35-year-old Michael T. Donkis from Yonkers as he walked nearby the motel. He confirmed his involvement in the altercation, where he allegedly remarked, “ Is this about the news guy? I just asked for ten dollars .” Further investigation revealed corroborating testimonies from individuals at the motel, affirming Donkis’s involvement in the roadside altercation.

Michael T. Donkis remains at the George W. Hill Correctional Facility, having to post 10% of a $75,000 bail. He faces charges of robbery and related offenses, and is awaiting a preliminary hearing on April 17, set by District Judge Steven A. Sandone.
