How’d you get into roller skating?

My grandparents skated. My dad was my mom’s skating instructor—scandalous, I know! And my three brothers and I grew up skating. I started competing in artistic roller skating, and in high school I was able to compete at the world level in the junior’s division and won gold four years in a row, from 2007 to 2010.

    What was that like?

I had the best childhood, but this was in the ’90s when roller skating wasn’t popular, so everyone in school thought it was a very weird and random hobby. I grew up in Yorba Linda, and after I won Worlds, I was inducted into the Yorba Linda Athlete Wall of Fame. That was the first time I felt like people acknowledged what I did.

How did you get into teaching?

After I retired from competing, I was choreographing and coaching the top athletes in the U.S. I was also performing in music videos and commercials. I performed with Katy Perry, Gwen Stefani, Kevin Hart. And I taught at the Holiday Skate Center in Orange, where I still teach private lessons. When 2020 happened, that all stopped, and I started making YouTube tutorials.

    Seems like they took off!

My husband Taylor was into photography, and I asked him to try filming me. He quit his job when we realized we could work together and make this a full-time thing. I have a website where people can have access to hundreds of video tutorials and a foundations course. The thing I love about skating is that anyone can do it. You can start at any age, and you never have to give it up.
