    York County Coroner IDs Goldsboro volunteer fire police officer killed in line of duty

    A volunteer fire police officer died in the line of duty in northern York County Friday afternoon after being struck by a vehicle while directing traffic, officials said.

    The York County Coroner's Office identified the fire police officer as Brian Peek, 67, of Wilson Court in Newberry Township. The cause and manner of death are pending.

    The Goldboro Fire Company issued a statement on Sunday on its Facebook page:

    "It is with deep sadness that we share the heartbreaking loss of one of our own, Brian Peek. Brian was a selfless, devoted member of our fire company and dedicated to his family. He will be greatly missed by many. Please remember his family during this difficult time. We will share further information on his arrangements as they become available," it says.

    The volunteer fire police officer from Goldsboro Fire Company was directing traffic at the intersection of Red Mill Road and Corn Hill Road in Newberry Township around 2:20 p.m. Friday when they were struck by a vehicle, according to a release by the Newberry Township Police Department.

    Fire police from Goldsboro and York Haven were in the area directing traffic around the scene where a vehicle struck a house on Red Mill Road at Yocumtown Road, according to a post by Newberry Township Fire Department.

    In a release Saturday morning, the Newberry Township Department of Public Safety identified the fallen fire police officer as being a volunteer from Goldsboro Fire Company, a small all-volunteer department in northern York County.

    The volunteer's name was not yet released, with the coroner's office awaiting further notification of family, according to a release from the York County Coroner's office.

    The release from the York County Coroner's office stated that an autopsy will be performed Monday morning at Lehigh Valley Hospital.

    Pennsylvania State Police is the investigating agency at the request of Newberry Township Police, according to the release.

    "On behalf of Newberry Township Police and the Department of Public Safety, we express our deepest gratitude to the fallen fire police officer for their service to our community," the release read.

    "Today’s incident is a tragedy in our community."

    Fire police officer was struck as first responders were preparing to leave

    On Saturday afternoon, the Newberry Township Fire Department issued a news release, saying the fire police officer was fatally struck as first responders had just cleared the initial incident and were preparing to leave.

    "Upon arrival, units confirmed the tragic news, and Fire Units immediately began patient care efforts, but unfortunately, they were unsuccessful," the release states.

    "Yesterday’s events resulted in a very tragic loss to the community of Newberry Township, Goldsboro and York Haven boroughs along with surrounding communities for the officers ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty," it states.

    The fire department extended its condolences and prayers to the Goldsboro Fire Company as well as friends and family of the fallen fire police officer.

    Donations to be collected at the local speedway tonight

    Members of the Newberry Township Fire Department plan to collect donations for the family of the fallen fire police officer at the BAPS Motor Speedway tonight, according to a Facebook post .

    Gates open at 5 p.m., and the race starts at 7 p.m., the speedway's website states .
