    Traffic alert: Section of I-83 in Harrisburg area to close this weekend

    A section of Interstate 83 in the Harrisburg area will be closed over the weekend for demolition of a bridge, according to the state Department of Transportation.

    The closure on the highway will between Exit 44B (19th Street) and Exit 45 (Paxton Street/Bass Pro Drive), a news release states.

    Lane restrictions in both directions will start at 7 p.m. Saturday with the section of the highway fully shutting down at 11 p.m., the release states. It will remain closed until 8 a.m. Sunday.

    Crews will be demolishing the 29th Street bridge as part of an improvement project on the Capital Beltway.

    How to detour around the I-83 closure this weekend

    PennDOT has established the following traffic detours for the planned closure:

    I-83 South: Take "Exit 45 (Paxton Street/Bass Pro Drive) to Paxton Street, then proceed west on Paxton Street to 17th Street and the ramp to southbound I-83."

    I-83 North: Get off at the "exit at 19th Street, then take 19th Street south to Paxton Street, then Paxton Street east to Eisenhower Boulevard north to the ramp to northbound I-83."
