A section of the York County SPCA will be closed to the public for a couple of weeks after two rescued dogs tested positive for parvovirus, according to a Facebook post.

The shelter in Manchester Township reported that its humane society police officer brought in five dogs last week that were living in deplorable conditions.

The canines initially tested negative for parvovirus, a viral disease that can be lethal and is preventable with a vaccine . However, some developed symptoms in recent days, and two now have tested positive for it, the post states.

"Because of the timing of the positive cases, we believe these dogs entered with parvo, which was undetectable at the time of testing," the post states.

The York County SPCA has decided to close browsing in the dog kennel until at least Sept. 17 to protect the canines in the shelter as well as the community, the post states. The public can still view the cats and small animals.

The York County SPCA recently cleared most of the shelter during a free adoption event .

Anyone who is interested in adopting a dog may complete a questionnaire, and the shelter will contact the individual to schedule a meeting time.

For more information, contact the shelter by calling (717) 764-6109, sending an email to info@ycspca.org or visiting ycspca.org .
