York High finally has a new basketball coach.
The York City School District approved Kerry Glover as York High's next boys basketball coach during the Sept. 18 school board meeting.
Glover replaces Clovis Gallon, who resigned as the Bearcats' coach after eight seasons leading the team.
Glover, whose brother, Kevin, is the head coach for the Bearcats' girls team, takes command of the program after spending the previous eight seasons as the head coach at Columbia, during which he accrued a 130-66 record and won two District 3 titles.
"My goal for the York High program is the same as it was for the Columbia program," Glover said. "It's to put out the best product that I possibly can and help win some games, some championships and help some of these student-athletes get up to the next level."

York High athletic director Jeff White anticipates Glover will bring further success to the Bearcats program, which is fresh off a 14-7 record overall in 2023-24, including a 7-5 Division I record.
"He has some good success (at Columbia), and we're expecting to expand upon that here at York High School," White said. "We noticed a little difference between the levels, but we feel his relations with some of our players already will help. He'll feel his way around the building and then get some hopefully other kids on board with him. Hopefully he'll have good success right away."
The hire took several months.
Former Susquehannock boys basketball coach Seth Leonard was recommended by the athletic administration three times on the May, June and July school board agendas. In May, school board director Cassandra Liggins requested the agenda item be tabled for further discussion. Diane Glover-Brown seconded the motion. The board voted 9-0 in favor of the table.
Roll call votes were held in June and July. In June, the vote was three yes and four no with school board director Micah Leonard abstaining and LaQuinn Thompson not present. In July, the vote was split 4-4 with Leonard abstaining.
"I am a little mystified because this is the recommendation, this is going to be the only recommendation that's going to pass and leave this boardroom," board director Michael Breeland said in June. "Future votes or any other votes no other name is going to pass this board."
Vice-president Margie Orr then told Breeland that the board has not always gone with the administration recommendations. Breeland said he was aware.
"This went back and forth between the two of them," according to the June minutes.
The position was not on the August school board meeting agenda.
On Sept. 18, the board members voted 6-3 in favor of Glover's hiring. Those that voted in favor of Glover were:
- Board Vice-President Margie Orr
- Board Member Michael Breeland
- Board Member Diane Glover-Brown
- Board Member Cassandra Liggins
- Board Member Ryan Supler
- Board Member LaQuinn Thompson
Those that voted against the hire were:
- Board President Lisa Kennedy
- Board Member Micah Leonard
- Board Member Tynisha Wilkes
Micah Leonard is Seth Leonard's sister. Diane Glover-Brown is Kerry Glover's aunt.
York High School Board President Lisa Kennedy declined to comment on Glover's hire.
