Central York's Dallas Inch didn't fret over the pressure. He knew his tie with York Suburban's Andrew Ekstrom at the top of the YAIAA golf leaderboards was going to break one way or the other.

The duo had been in a deadlock all afternoon. Both golfers finished each half of the course within three strokes of the other, and the two had been tied at 3-under par heading into their final hole. A playoff wasn't much different. They'd even been tied after the YAIAA's team tournament on Tuesday after each finishing that round at 4 under.

Inch remained calm, and it paid off. He finished his playoff hole with a par, one stroke ahead of Ekstrom, to take home first place in the YAIAA boys individual championship on Thursday.

"When we turned the nine, I knew coming down the last six holes that I had to step it up," Inch said. "Mentally, I switched the gear to where I was like, 'Yeah, you've got to lock in and win.'"

Inch and Ekstrom each scored the lowest among YAIAA boys golfers in both 2A and 3A. Dallastown's Reed Krosse placed third with a par 72 final score. Sam McKim of York Catholic posted an 8-over 80, which earned him the best score among 2A boys golfers.

But they weren't the only two top finishers to settle their round with a playoff. Vivienne Powers from York Suburban and Olivia Kury of York Catholic settled on a playoff round to determine the winner of the girls' championship after each shot 77 for their respective rounds. Powers inched out the win after defeating Kury on the first playoff hole.

"I feel like I played pretty well overall today," Powers said. "My swing felt steady and I felt ready when I found out I had the playoff hole. I was excited, but my swing felt good so I knew I was ready for it."

The top 22 boys golfers and top 3 girls golfers qualified for the district tournament, which will be held Oct. 10-12 at Honey Run Golf Club.
